The Bride of Christ is a prominent symbol and metaphor used in Scripture to describe God’s relationship with his beloved bride, the church. Portrayed as the bridegroom in this relationship, God reveals Himself to be faithful, loving, and committed to a covenant union with his church, comprised of all who believe in Jesus Christ and have accepted His atoning grace and gift of salvation. The church that God is building in this present age (the Body of Christ is made up of all who believe the gospel of the grace of God revealed through the apostle Paul, Gal. ; Eph. ) is likened to a bride and wife by way of illustration, but it is a great blunder to jump to the conclusion that we are the bride and wife spoken of in prophecy.

It seems that people tend to make the mistake of viewing marriage from a human perspective rather than from God’s perspective. God the Father and Jesus Christ are not going to copy the human marriage institution in their plans for Christ’s marriage to His Bride—the Church!.
So we look to the marriage of Christ to the Church for the right perspective of human marriage. Christ is presently preparing His bride for the wedding we find described in the Book of Revelation. It is at this wedding that our Lord will come back, to be joined to His church as His bride.
In the meantime, Christ is purifying His bride in preparation for her wedding day. In a marriage, everything that the bridegroom owns also belongs to the bride.
